COVID-19 precautions are in place for patient and staff safety

MANKATO (May 6, 2020) — Mankato Clinic is resuming elective and preventive care, surgeries and procedures in clinics, Mankato Clinic Endoscopy Center and Mankato Surgery Center. The decision follows the governor’s executive order to lift the ban on elective surgeries and procedures.

“We have a safe environment to provide the care needed for elective surgeries and procedures, office visits and diagnostic imaging that are vital to our patients’ health and well-being,” said Dr. Andrew Lundquist, Mankato Clinic Chief Medical Officer. “As we reach out to patients who have delayed their care, we are safely increasing patient volumes in a measured way.”

Here are Mankato Clinic’s precautions for patient and staff safety.

  • Screening: Every patient and caregiver is screened at the door for COVID-like symptoms and their temperature is taken. All staff is screened for symptoms and temperature when reporting to work.
  • Limiting visitors: Only patients with an appointment are entering the clinic. Only one caregiver is allowed when one is needed.
  • Masking: Patients and caregivers are given a mask and all staff members and providers are wearing masks and appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Lobbies: Social distancing and enhanced cleaning and disinfecting are practiced in all lobbies.
  • Testing: Patients will be tested for COVID-19 prior to surgeries and procedures. Providers and staff will also be tested prior to performing surgeries and procedures.

In addition, COVID-19 care is provided in a separate Respiratory Clinic. After calling the COVID-19 hotline at 507-389-8548, patients who need medical care or testing are directed to the Respiratory Clinic. This is an effective strategy to ensure patient safety at other locations. Our providers are also continuing telehealth visits when appropriate.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and ready to adjust our services as needed,” Dr. Lundquist said. “The health and well-being of our patients and communities is our top priority.”
