Back on the Course

Back pain was slowing Jim Jilek down. Now he’s back to tackling projects and staying on course!

“I’m a retired electrician, but I like to be active. I’ve been working on our new home, landscaping our yard, and mowing grass and trimming trees at North Links Golf Course.

When my lower back hurt, my doctor sent me to the Mankato Clinic Pain Management Center.

I began with exercises, but that didn’t help. Next, we discussed injections that are placed around the spine to relieve back pain.

The care team was able to pinpoint the source of pain near my tailbone. After the injection, the pain was gone! At my 1-month follow-up visit, Kelly Ludvik, nurse practitioner, explained that the relief typically lasts 4 to 5 months. About 6 months later, I received a second injection and had the same great result.

Every now and then, my back will hurt if I’ve been sitting too long. When I get up and move around, the pain goes away and I feel better.

Scheduling is easy, too. After making an appointment, I often get a text offering me an earlier visit if there’s a cancellation. When you’re in pain, it’s nice to be able to get in sooner.

Although I can receive injections every 4 months to treat the pain, it’s awesome that I’m able to go 6 months between treatments.

I feel really good and can keep doing retirement in my own way!”
