Virtual Visit FAQ's
What is a virtual visit?
A virtual visit, also called telehealth or virtual care, is a secure video appointment with your Mankato Clinic provider. You can join the appointment from a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Mankato Clinic virtual visits take place through eVisit, a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
What do I need for a virtual visit?
You’ll need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera, microphone, and speaker, plus a reliable internet connection. For device and browser requirements, visit the eVisit Patient Help Center.
How do I join my virtual visit?
Before your appointment, your care team will send you a link by text or email. At your scheduled time, select the link and follow the prompts. When asked, allow access to your camera and microphone so you and your provider can see and hear each other. For step-by-step help joining your visit, visit the eVisit Patient Help Center.
Is a virtual visit right for me?
Many appointments can be completed through a virtual visit, but not all. Some visits, procedures, and therapies need to happen in person. Your provider will let you know which option is best for you, and your unique circumstances. To find out whether a virtual visit is a good fit, contact your provider’s office or call 507-625-1811.
How can I prepare for my virtual visit?
Treat your virtual visit like an in-clinic appointment. A few tips:
- Charge your device or keep it plugged in.
- Use a strong internet connection and limit streaming or gaming on your home network during your visit.
- Close other apps and browser windows.
- Find a quiet, private, well-lit space without distractions.
- Set your device down at eye level instead of holding it.
- Have a pen and paper ready for any instructions, along with a list of your current medications and any questions for your provider.
- Keep your phone nearby in case your care team needs to reach you.
Is my virtual visit private and secure?
Yes. Virtual visits use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video connection to protect your privacy. Recording a visit without authorization is not allowed.
Is a virtual visit covered by insurance?
Many insurance plans cover virtual visits, but coverage varies by plan. Contact your insurance company to confirm your coverage before your visit.
What happens if I have technical problems during my visit?
For help with connection, audio, video, or your eVisit account, visit the eVisit Patient Help Center. If you can’t connect at your appointment time, contact your provider’s office.
