Diabetes Center Receives ADA Recognition -- Event Tonight!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: For more information on this media advisory, contact Katie Nerem Roth, Mankato Clinic Public Relations Director, at 389-8770 or 327-8112.

The Mankato Clinic Diabetes Care Center was notified just yesterday that it meets national standards set by the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

As an effort to promote quality education for people with diabetes, the ADA formally recognizes clinics and hospitals that meet these standards. The standards are designed to define quality diabetes self-management education that can be implemented in diverse settings and will facilitate improvement in healthcare outcomes. Since opening in March of 2004, the Mankato Clinic Diabetes Care Center (located at the Mankato Clinic on Main Street) began collecting treatment and educational curriculum information to submit to the ADA for recognition.

Media are invited to attend a Spring Training event tonight, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., hosted by the Mankato Clinic Diabetes Care Center. The event is designed to promote a healthier, easier and more flexible way to live with diabetes.

According to the ADA, about 18.2 million people - 6.3% of the U.S. population ñ have diabetes (2002, ADA). For more national facts about diabetes go to http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes-statistics/national-diabetes-fact-sheet.jsp
