Mankato Clinic Makes Contribution to Upcoming Nobel Conference

St. Peter - The Mankato Clinic has made a contribution of $12,000 in support of Gustavus Adolphus College's 2006 Nobel Conference. This year's conference, entitled "Medicine: Prescription for Tomorrow," explores the promise of medical research and the changing nature of the health care system.

Mankato Clinic Chief Operating Officer Bryan Nermoe says the sponsorship aligns directly with the Clinic's mission, as well as its recent presence in the St. Peter community with the opening of Daniel's Health Center in 2003.  "As a leader in healthcare, we felt it was important to support the St. Peter community in this way. We also wanted to be a part of discussions surrounding the future of healthcare, and to be able to do that in the company of internationally recognized researchers is a rare opportunity."

The conference, held at the Gustavus campus on October 3 and 4, will cover topics such as tissue engineering, oncogene research, nanotechnology, worldwide epidemics, health care policy and reform, and humanitarian assistance.

The Nobel Conference, which is sanctioned by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, is in its fourth decade at Gustavus and convenes for two days each fall to explore topics related to the natural and social sciences. Gustavus expects around 5,000 attendees, using the world's foremost scholars and researchers as conference presenters, one of whom is a past Nobel Prize recipient.
