Dan Buettner to Headline Mankato Clinic 3rd Annual Men's Health Forum on Tuesday
Mankato - Explorer and National Geographic writer Dan Buettner will headline the Mankato Clinic’s 3rd Annual Men’s Health Forum on Tuesday, April 17 th, 2007 at the Midwest Wireless Civic Center Arena. Buettner is the founder of Quest Network, Inc. and has produced more than a dozen interactive expeditions. His Quests are real-time expeditions designed to enlist an online audience's participation in solving some of science's biggest questions. The Quests have generated more than two billion media impressions and garnered an online educational audience of 12 million students in 80,000 classrooms. Buettner has biked more than 120,000 miles around the globe, holds three Guinness World Records in long-distance cycling and has been accepted into the Explorer's Club. He is considered the father of the interactive expedition, and the Washington Post has called his Quests "the most successful experiment in interactive education to date."
The event begins at 4 p.m., with free health screenings and business display booths until 6:30 p.m. Health screenings include blood pressure checks, glucose checks, and body mass index calculation. There will also be health information on diabetes management, foot and ankle care, better hearing, lasik and cataract eye surgery, blood pressure and cholesterol, prostate health, and depression and chemical abuse screening. Attendees will be able to visit with clinical staff and receive information from the following Mankato Clinic departments: Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Wound Care, Foot and Ankle Center, Ophthalmology, Urology, Audiology, Ear, Nose, and Throat, Diabetes Care Center, and Psychiatry.
Mankato Clinic physicians Gary Goldberg, M.D., James Nack, M.D., and Dustin Dierks, M.D. will take the main stage at 6:30 p.m. with men’s health presentations on prostate cancer, benign prostate disease, common foot ailments, and the aging eye. Event moderator, Michel James, M.D., will facilitate a question and answer session. Following the health presentations, Dan Buettner will take the stage presenting information about his explorations and how he has unlocked the secrets of living longer and feeling younger.
Greater Mankato businesses with product and display booths include Scheels, Snell Motors, Gaffer’s Lawn & Sport, Keepers RV Center, Sprint, Midwest Putting Greens & Sports Turf, Mankato YMCA, and Country 103FM. All event attendees will be entered into a drawing for a $500 shopping spree at Scheels.
